Details on the first-ever Shut Up & Write South Side Columbus event

Starting March 22, every fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 pm ET, I’m hosting Shut Up & Write at Two Dollar Radio Headquarters, a family-run indie bookstore, performance space, bar, and vegan cafe located on the South Side of Columbus, Ohio.

Shut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events with the goal that writers all over the world, regardless of genre or skill level, have access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Their formula is simple: a few minutes of introductions, an hour of focused writing, and a final check-in to share the hour's progress.

Last Spring, my mother-in-law began making trips out to Yellow Springs, Ohio for Shut Up & Write events, inviting my wife and me to join her as we were able to. Although the timing didn’t always work, I loved the few times I was able to attend. I’d usually come into the meetings with some sense of what I wanted to write about. But during that hour, it was amazing to me how easily the words flowed when I had set-aside, uninterrupted writing time.

Following the last meeting we all attended, I started wondering if Columbus had any similar writing groups. After checking in with a few writing friends in the city, it sounded like there was an opportunity for something like this, especially within the circles we tend to run. And while I later realized Shut Up & Write has a few groups in and around Columbus (Dublin & Easton Town Center), they’re still further out from the city than some might be comfortable going.

Thankfully, the good people over at Two Dollar Radio HQ agreed to host the monthly events for folks who are closer to Columbus’ South Side. I’m super excited this is actually happening, and I can’t wait to write with everybody. If you’re in the city, I hope you’ll join us next month for an hour of writing.
