alex you're making me have withdrawals from an album i listened to in full TWO days ago. such a considered, wonderful piece. there has always been something connected and spiritual about her work. i love that you didn't ignore that root and built on it as a reading. i say it all the time but you're so good at this.
I keep going to reply to this and can’t find the words. Thank you for seeing me. I have so much respect for your pen and taste level, so it’s always an honor when you spend time with my words and share what they mean to you. Can’t wait until we have you here in Columbus hosting an Album Club.
i moved to Houston the year this album came out and one night after an outing, i put the album on my drive back to my place and "Beltway" started as rode down Beltway 8. i rolled all of my windows down to the fall air and it was honestly the most magical memories that i have from living there. Solange truly made an incredible work of art with this one.
Literally sounds perfect. Reminds me of my summer living in Atlanta and keeping Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, DS2 & STN MTN in heavy rotation. There’s just something about being somewhere the music was born
I’m from Houston and when this dropped it shook the whole city. The locality as material for the film was everything. That first shot in the Rothko Chapel, project row houses and the brick homes of third ward 🖤🖤 this visual album still makes me cry every time
I love that this album truly feels like home for you, that the album and film authentically capture the place you call home. Not being from Houston, I can feel it. But I’m glad that you actually feel it being from there
